 Not just another "Charity" case

Cypress Lake Center for the Arts proudly presents Sweet Charity. The show, which originally ran November 19-22, 2009, is being revived for two very special performances.   The show has been selected to perform at the Florida State Thespian Festival on April 9, 2010. It will play in Morsani Hall at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center for a full house of 2,600 conference attendees.  In order to raise money to get the show to Tampa and to prepare the cast and crew for working in a large hall, Sweet Charity will play this one night only engagement.

Sweet Charity tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a girl employed as a hostess at a New York dance hall in the late 1960's. Charity is a hopeless romantic who’s innocent vulnerability is repeatedly taken advantage of by con artists, panhandlers, and even a boyfriend who pushes her into a lake while stealing her life's savings.  With a great score by Cy Coleman that includes “Big Spender,” “If They Could See Me Now” and “Rhythm of Life,” and a script by Tony winner Neil Simon, Sweet Charity is a sure-fire hit!  Through trials and tribulations, sweet Charity continues searching for love, wide-eyed and hopeful.

Cypress Lake Center for the Arts is a public Lee county high school.  Students have the opportunity to major in vocal music, theatre, dance, band, orchestra, visual arts and media.  With over 100 students involved in the production of Sweet Charity, it is the largest Center for the Arts production on the year.  The musicals at Cypress Lake Center for the Arts have been honored by the Lee County High School Musical Awards.  Cypress has been honored with the best overall music in each year that the High School Musical Awards have been in existence: 2008 for All Shook Up and 2009 for The Producers.

Please support our wonderful students and come and see this amazing production of Sweet Charity.
